Topic: A Look Inside Entity Framework 4.0

A new version of Entity Framework will be available with the upcoming release of Visual Studio 2010 in April. During this presentation we will look at a number of the new features in this release with the primary focus being on T4 template based code generation. These features include:

  • Better N-Tier Support with Self-Tracking Entities
  • Persistence Ignorance
  • Lazy Loading
  • POCO Change-Tracking
  • T4 Template Based Code Generation
  • Model-First & Code Only Development

Presenter: Brandon Brown

Brandon Brown is the Chief Software Architect and founder of Customer of Velocity, a software company providing sales force automation for the residential home building industry. He also consults as a Microsoft "Subject Matter Expert" for Apex Systems, one of the top 10 placement firms in the US. Brandon has 15 years of experience as a software architect and systems designer and travels the country teaching Microsoft technologies to Apex employees and consultants.

I just returned from PDC09, my first conference as a newly minted Microsoftie, and can't way to share all the cool things we announced. We'll hit the highlights and big announcements from PDC09, and then drill into some of the interesting things announced in the Silverlight, WPF and client dev spaces, with a focus on the new and exciting things in Silverlight 4 including webcam/mic support and COM automation.

We will have a number of computers preloaded with Windows 7 for you to use. Bring your questions about Windows 7 and we'll try to answer them. Also, being a developer user group, we'll have the latest beta of Visual Studio 2010 installed.

What is a party without prizes? We have a number of items to giveaway, including a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate.

Topic: C# 4.0 New Language Features

This presentation will cover the new C# 4.0 language features. This demo-heavy session will begin by covering various dynamic scenarios with C# including the new "dynamic" keyword, simplified Reflection, custom dynamic objects, duck typing, Iron Ruby integration, and more. We will also cover named and optional parameters, new COM Interop enhancements, co-variance, and contra-variance. If you are a C# developer, come learn about the new language tools that you can put in your toolbox!

Steve Michelotti is a Microsoft ASP.NET MVP and an Architect/Developer for Applied Information Sciences (AIS). He has consulted at Advertising.com/AOL where he was the Tech Lead for one of the highest volume .NET applications in the world. He previously was the Chief Technologist at e.magination. Steve is a frequent presenter at developer user groups and Code Camps along the East Coast and holds the MCSD, MCPD, and MCT certifications. We are trying to get more jQuery, Ruby, TDD, SQL Server, and Best Practices sessions.

Other possible session topics are .NET 101, .NET 4.0 and VS2010, ALT.NET, Data Access, Business Intelligence, and Sharepoint. If your talk does not fit into one of these, submit it anyway, we'll find a place for it.

Topic: Moving Your Application to Silverlight

In this presentation we will take a look at the basics of Silverlight and how to put it all together to create an application. We will look at the Silverlight controls and layout, blend, navigation, data handling and communication including web services and the entity framework. We will finish with a brief look at styling and theming.

Presenter: John Baird

John Baird began his computer programming career while in the US Navy. In 1982, he helped form and direct the first PC-based computer processing department for training and manpower in the Department of Defense. After leaving the military in 1988, John began a varied career as a consultant developing business applications ranging from computer-based training to vertical market software for resellers.
Today, John is working for the industry leader in financial software for fund administration. John was recently awarded MVP status for device application development.
